The GLOBSEC NATO Adaptation Project envisages a series of papers to be released over the next several months which will address the nature of NATO adaptation and the challenges it must overcome if it is to remain a viable and credible alliance for the peace and stability of Europe and North America.

This report discusses whether NATO is about to become a security organization à la carte , engaging in security tasks on a case-by-case basis and alternately serving the interests of different member states, constellations and external partners. The authors observe that both in terms of tasks and relations, NATO has gone through changes in rhetoric and action that alters its traditional role.

This Technical Report examines the military and institutional dimensions of NATO transformation and how they may affect how the Alliance and the Canadian Forces approach the challenge of deploying and sustaining forces in the field. The first part of the report defines key terms and explores the strategic environment in which NATO finds itself. The second part evaluates the status of the transformational process through the lens of recent strategic guidance, enlargement, outreach to individual and institutional partners, and current economic realities. Preliminary conclusions reveal that strategic developments have awakened policy-makers to the importance of operational support to current and anticipated missions, and that innovations in capability development may be realized in the face fiscal austerity.

The Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia in line with the activities it has been taking as part of the overall debate on the new NATO Strategic Concept issued a document stating the analysis and the positions regarding the vision for NATO 2020.

'The primary aim of the present report is to define the positions of NATO members with respect to the most important issues that are likely to be discussed in the debate on the new strategic concept.'

This report deals with the main security risks that currently exist, the challenges facing NATO and the diverse security concerns within the Alliance. On the basis of this analysis proposals are made for the stance to be taken by the Dutch government in the negotiations on a new Strategic Concept.
